Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has today announced that the NSW Government’s popular Local Sport Grants Program is open once again to get more locals involved in sport and recreation activities.

Mr Anderson said that last year’s round of funding saw $50,000 awarded to sporting groups in the Tamworth electorate for a range of projects including $25,000 for new lighting at Tamworth Bowling Club, $9,695 to upgrade the irrigation at Barraba Golf Course, $2,000 to purchase netball rings, cricket nets and dart flooring at Nowendoc, $895 to purchase new uniforms for the Tamworth Swans and $7,000 to build a shade structure at the Tamworth Hockey Complex.

“This program provides a unique opportunity for local sporting clubs to improve facilities or purchase equipment that they may otherwise not be able to without some funding assistance.

“I want to help make sure our community sporting facilities are constantly improving and encourage more people to participate in activities that promote health and wellbeing which is why this program is so important.

“I know of some great projects that have already been brought to my attention in the electorate and I’m excited to see what other projects come forward.”

There are four project types within the Program, these being:

  1. Sport Club Development;
  2. Community Sport Events;
  3. Sport Access; and
  4. Facility Development.

Applications are now open and will close 11 November 2016.
